Harper is a business man posing as a Prime Minister. He wants to re-criminalise abortion again, and take control of our reproductive rights. He's like the little brother of the idiots in certain states trying to impose a law that requires a female to give birth to a still born "just like cows and pigs do."
Since he is a business man and all about the all holy god 'money' we should lay it out this way. Only a small percentage of abortions are performed on minors (under the age of 18). 20% of the clients are women who would be risking their lives and the fetus' life by bringing it to term. The rest of those are adult women, who already have children to care for. They are women who are able to consciously say " I am not financially, or physically able to take care of my family if I give birth to one more."
Lets say, a woman with two children, working full time, husband (If she isn't a single mother) full time worker are just managing to pay their bills, pay the mortgage, pay for two cars and keep the house full of nutritious food. On top of that, paying for school fees and other necessities for two growing kids.
One more mouth to feed is going to cause this self sufficient family to start relying on community services. Non profit organisations get their funding from sponsors, fundraisers,.... and the government. If the government is already cutting back on social welfare systems and organisations.. where is this family going to turn when things get tough??
Statistically one out of their three children will drop out of high school or go straight into the workforce out of school making minimum wage. This will cause him to be unable to continue his education without taking out a loan (Another government paid 'step up')
It's highly likely in this economy that one of the parents will get laid off, making them eligible for EI. And with the extra baby, Mum can't work... sooo where exactly are they going to get money to pay the bills??
Ontario Works to the rescue!! Another government operation that gives out $400 a month per person, and if your child is over the age of 16, regardless of his school attendance will be put into the work force. Once you do find work, you have to start paying back what they gave you.... Making it even harder for this family to graduate out of the system.
The family will be using foodbanks and any other food bought is cheap, so extremely unhealthy. The members of this family will get sick more often due to stress and lack of nutrition. The kids will go to school hungry on occaision and their grades will slip. They won't be able to take part in extra curricular events or sports because they can't afford the fees.
The parents will fight because they don't see each other and when they do, they only talk about money, the bills, the kids and their 'bad' behaviour...
It goes on.
If you want to help keep families "the integral unit of a community" together and active within society.. don't re-criminialise abortion. If you WANT to make money and not keep draining the system..DONT RE-CRIMINIALISE ABORTION..
I also find it very far fetched that a man is trying to put into law, something he has no right to control. Beliefs and the idea of the soul is something very personal to EACH INDIVIDUAL on this planet. The idea of killing a fetus, or deciding when it turns into a HUMAN BEING (Like the mother) is different for each person. You can't possibly try to put this type of thing into stone, or make it a black and white law. Abortion isn't black and white, belief systems are not black and white. The right to have dominion over your own body and what you will and will not allow to have done to it IS black and white.
It is a right that each woman and man is born with and it is arrogant and pathetic that a man like Harper would try to control the reproductive decisions of every woman(Or couple) in Canada.

Tummy hurts, long day, I wonder if any of the places I applied to will call me back.
Things to do tomorrow...
Trying to set up a graduation surprise dinner for a friend and get her a Spa package. It's supposed to be a joint effort between her BF, her mum and me but so far they are being super shift about the money. Regardless I am going to purchase the Package tomorrow so that she has something she can do to relax.
I applied for all over night positions, and unfortunately there aren't many overnight social worker or residence worker positions available in peel which sucks.
Sleep time.

Midnight (ish)walk to get toilet paper...
I want a second job for the summer so that's what I am going to do tomorrow before work...
Just the idea of talking to my mother again, and trying to communicate everything I feel and have felt over the years makes my head hurt. I dont like the idea of my grandmother's funeral being the reason to start 'conflict resolution' with her and perhaps even my sisters. But I can't think of any way that would force us into the same room again. Especially considering she is in a completely different province.
Yay...
I want sleep now.

Started packing up, and ultimately throwing away, bits and pieces of my apartment. Everyone always says how surprising it is how much stuff they have accumulated. I however feel I have very little. Minus the furniture and clothes... most of the little things I have are all packed up in 5 boxes... two of those taken up by books.
When I moved from England I had to sell most of my books in a garage sale. When I moved from Toronto to Halifax I got rid of a few more... then a few more when I moved back to Toronto...
Now I only have two boxes and a suitcase full, in the future, I want a whole room filled with books and one comfy chair and one really big window :)

Intalled the new keyboard into my laptop now I have to decide if I want two laptops or want to sell the new one....
Would probably help if I could find the power adapter for the old one first.....
I misplace things quite easily.
Tomorrow has to be better than today.

It is nice to have a place where you feel safe. For me that place is work, I feel secure here in a number of different ways. I always know that no matter how turbulent my life is this place is always a haven.
When I return to school this September I may be unable to fulfill the part time requirements due to scheduling conflicts. I will be sad at the idea of leaving the place and the people, though not ill prepared. I have learned a lot here about myself and my profession. I hope where ever I end up next Will offer just as much personal growth.
Speaking of safe places, VR is my writing space. I usually feel safe writing my life here. I do have other places I write online that are strictly for me. But VR is always my first thought processor. I'd pay for a lifetime membership strictly for the private entries option :)
Yes this journal is technically public but most people who read it make their remarks or just mosey along. I won't meet 99% of these people and thier opinion means very little. (thats sounds kind of harsh) mostly I like the fact that I can voice my thoughts and ideas without people in my 'real life' seeing it.
And that is probably why I have stuck around here so long.

I am never, ever, ever doing family therapy. My sisters and I have been having a really tough time getting along and things finally reached a critical point.
We sat down tonight and we tried to talk things out, compromise and all that jazz. Mediating and remaining objective especially when you're involved is damn near impossible. Needless to say we worked some stuff out and should probably make a talk like that happen more often.
Lets see how things go from here.

Nothing but pineapple and tea for me today. Anything else just doesn't seem appealing.
I havent been to yoga as often and onlybeen running two times a week instead of four. On top of that I havent been eating properly the last two weeks so no wonder my body hasnt been able to fight off the infection.
