Betrayed by word yet to be written...

Tracks stray before me
Two rails with ties that bind
Or pavement framed by glowing lines
Along this tired denim road
Reflecting back while looking forward
Moving forward
Always forward
Grasping at the fading light
Of the distant red horizon
Leaving the sky to wait again
Patiently from end to end
Dreaming a Milky Way dream
Behind the eons tired eyes
With only the stars for company
Unseen
Blinded by the Earth’s great shelter
Heavy
So heavy
Obscuring the twinkling lights
And the pale glow of the moon
Slowly creeping
While the constellations fall
Victims of this murky wall
Fading where the storms of your emotions
Soak the acrid ground
Making my bed
This muddy land where I sleep
And stains my breathless soul
In the dark night
So deep
But with the morning sun
I find a way to rise again
And move forward
Always forward

Leaving the sky to wait again
Patiently from end to end
- So beautiful

The feeling of the whole is a wearying treadmill trudge with a red-glowing hope just out of reach.

Great job!

Perfecting the imperfect..

Time outs between the time
When hours and seconds
Meld minutes by
Tiny hands holding on
While shrieks of laughter
Crowd the setting sun
Reflection of days to come
And days gone by
And what we’ve done
Moments captured
As bugs in a jar
Lighting the dark
Earth-bound stars

Paths created by force of nature
Waters flowing from here to there
Making slippery rocks
That prove only
A road too sweet to pass by
A slip
A fall
None too cautious
This day was made
For messes
And to let the boys be boys

Turn a rock
Nature’s garden
And the questions
That can’t be answered
Is this a rock, or a dinosaur egg?
And what is behind that wall of shale?
A secret entrance to an undiscovered tale!
Waiting to be told
We’ll be known throughout the world
And won’t that be something?
Only imagination
Limits the wonders to behold

What is there?
Minnows? Crawfish?
See how they swim backward
And the fish dart
A zig
A zag
Turn another stone
And the catfish scatter
Bumping blindly into legs
Giving way to laughter and surprise
Feeling the current
And the soft bed between toes
A funeral at sea
For a friend that will never be
And another red stone for a collection
Happy times to revisit often
As often as the water flows this way
And while boys can be boys
The discovery of the wonders that surround
Will someday make them better men
And the generations to come
As generations gone by
Are better for them

This is inspired and beautiful. I love it from beginning to end. It captivated me with its lyrical rhythm from the very first stanza. Brilliantly done, birra.

The loss of nothing to lose...

I have been seriously lacking inspiration lately. I can't see writing another poem about the things that haunt my mind and stress dominates my days. Maybe it is a fear of seeming too negative or feeling within myself I'm dwelling on all of the negative. I'm lacking focus and direction - something I had a lot of a few years ago when I took up writing for pleasure again.

I have to say, Joli had a lot to do with it. She helped me remember that I used to enjoy writing for pleasure.

If you've never read Joli's poetry, please do so. Much of it can be found in this section of her journal.

If you enjoy good poetry... you will enjoy perusing her pages.

In the meantime I'm going to work on trying to find inspiration within myself and writing about something other than my own negativity.

meh. I think that happens to everyone now and again. Don't fret about it. You'll find 'it' again soon enough and by then, you'll have something to write about I'm sure.

Looking forward to when you do.

A man like you is a rarity in this world. You're too close to yourself to see that, but a man like you needs to capture bits of the world that enchants you, to hold it in your hands a moment and add some of your own imagination. And we need to have those glimpses when you share them because afterwards, we are all the richer.
